What am I still doing in Cancun?

The adventures of an American single mommy working and playing in paradise.

What has happened to my life?

Hiiiiii! Well, things certainly have been crazy around here. I have been wishing I had time to blog every single day.

First of all, I am now a full time singer.

     How did this happen?

If you remember, one of the friends I auditioned with in the first hotel told me about another audition for a singer only (they already had a group) in the Ritz Carlton. I HAD to try, I mean, I never would have forgiven myself if I hadn’t. There were two other girls that auditioned as well. I arrived first and they were wimps (ridiculous since they are both much more trained than I am) so I sung (sang?) first. It certainly wasn’t my best performance (and I haven’t really sung in about a year and a half) but it went decent. The other two girls sang better than I did. However, one was four months pregnant, and the other one was what we call “pesada” around these parts. I can’t really think of a translation, but let’s put it this way, she criticized the way the musicians played one of her songs and before she had even started her audition she told them that she could only work 3 days a week. Um, they need someone six days a week loca.

I can’t believe it, but I got the job. I don’t know if it was because the other two girls both had an “issue”, but I think the Ritz Carlton of all places would look for someone else if they weren’t happy with me.

So I started Wednesday night. NO rehearsal. The director told me they don’t rehearse. Great. For a girl like me who likes to be prepared, this added a lot of stress to an already stressful situation. The first night didn’t go so well. We (I) made loads of obvious mistakes, but the guests seemed to enjoy it and many came back the second night. The second night went much better, but it was starting to become obvious that the musicians may be of the opinion that I ain’t so great. Now I will give it to them, they are very talented and well-trained, but c’mon, have a heart, it’s not like I walk around saying how great I am. Actually, just the opposite, and hotels like me because I relate well to the guests. Um, Britney Spears isn’t the greatest singer either but she did pretty well for herself.

Anyway, last night about halfway through the evening I started to lose my voice, so today I haven’t said more than 10 words. My throat feels much better so hopefully I’ll be ok for tonight and tomorrow night. Thank goodness for right now we have Monday and Tuesday off. The other problem is I get to bed at about 1am now (very late for a girl who normally falls asleep at 9:30pm) and my sweet boy wakes-up between 5:30-6:00am. UGH. I do get to take a nap or two, but it’s not the same, and singers need a lot of sleep and rest.

The day I found out that I got the job I filmed the rest of the Selvatica commercial. This time we were in a studio in front of a blue (instead of green) screen. It was a lot different than my experience at the park! It was a lot of pretending to look at and talk to someone who wasn’t there. I hope I did alright.

And now my sweet little boy has a cold and a fever. He is so sweet and cuddly when he feels bad, poor baby.

I don’t even want to think about what will happen if I get his cold. It ain’t easy being Beyonce! LOL 😉
