On Saturday night I went out with my friend (and a whole bunch of other people) for her birthday. We mommies clean-up quite nicely!
We arrived at La Regadera (The Shower) at 9pm en punto (on the dot). It’s a karaoke place in a strip mall. (Get it? Singing in the shower? I didn’t notice that, my friend had to point it out. lol) It’s SMALL. We were the only ones there and decided we didn’t like it at all but the place filled-up really quickly and it got a little better.
Now I must complain (surprise, surprise). Karaoke places should have a stage. The first thing I said when we walked in is, “Where is the stage?” I hate it when you don’t know who is singing a song because they are slumped in a dark corner. Isn’t the point of karaoke to live out your rock star fantasy? My friend says that only I think this because I can more or less sing well, but I don’t think that’s it. It just doesn’t seem like karaoke to me when someone is singing while sitting in their booth and talking to their friends during the instrumental break.
Next we went to this place called Yesterday. Yeah, I thought the name was cheesy too, but what a pleasant surprise! I have been wanting to go to this place on a Thursday night because it’s Salsa night and all of the Cancun Salsa misfits that used to go to Azucar go there now. (The guy who managed Azucar now manages Yesterday.) Anyway, Saturday night must be 70’s and 80’s night. There was a live band, and they were GREAT, and I am not easily impressed. First of all, they didn’t play the same old crap, they played Rosanna (Toto) and Saturday in the Park (Chicago). And they played Bohemian Rhapsody…and I mean they PLAYED IT. I could not believe how awesome it sounded coming from a band consisting of 5 people. I will be back Yesterday!
On Monday I was so tired from our fun weekend but I didn’t have to work so I went to get a mani/pedi. The salon in the hotel on the corner of my street was having a special, 200 pesos. (About 16 US Dollars!) It’s not a very fancy place, but who cares? It was heavenly. Of course, when I got home I had to do tons of dishes as I had cooked all kinds of food to freeze for my little one. Oh well, that’s the life of a mommy, you always get snapped right back into reality. But when this is the face is waiting there…
reality is just fine with me.
