It’s been awhile since we’ve done something really fun, but last weekend we had a quick one night getaway at the Sunset Fishermen in Playa del Carmen. Playa is a great place to go for the night because it takes less than an hour to drive there. Bebé took a nap in the car. I have always loved how he looks when he is sleeping. (Yes, that is my son, but with a major haircut!)
Sunset Fishermen is owned by the company I work for. I have always heard that people really love it, and I have always gotten great comments about it on our Facebook page, and now I know why. It’s located in Playacar, a quiet, exclusive, private area of Playa del Carmen. It’s small, the perfect size really. The beach is amazing!
The staff is relaxed, in fact, the whole place is relaxed! Of course, the only thing Bebé really cared about is the fact that they have a pool!
He had his first virgin strawberry daiquiri. I guess it’s no surprise that he loved it! (Yes I know, pure sugar…bad Mommy!)
He even met a little girl at the pool and played with her all day. After we spent a few hours at the pool, we went to check out our room. It was great! It was spacious and had a little kitchen, a dining area, and a living area. It even had a hot tub on the balcony.
Next, we decided to head to charming 5th Avenue in downtown Playa. It was about a 15 minute walk, and a very scenic one! We spotted some Mayan ruins along the way.
And an amazing public beach.
As soon as we arrived downtown, there was a lot to see! First Michael Jackson…
Then a break dance crew, and next some Papantla Flyers! He loved them!
Then we stopped for ice cream, or “eemay” as Bebé calls it (no idea). Then he wanted to get out of his stroller and walk down 5th Avenue. There are always lots of interesting things to see.
It was a beautiful evening!
We went back to the hotel and had a late dinner. Bebé is getting better at dining out as far as his behavior is concerned. It reminded me of going out to dinner with my parents when we were little. Next, it was time to head back to the room to go to sleep. Papi would arrive very late that night. There was a lovely crib set up in the room for Bebé.
However, after we were all tucked in I heard a strange noise. He had crawled out of the crib and into the bed. His first time sleeping in a real bed!
Unfortunately he also fell out of it around 5:30am.
We were all pretty bummed when we woke up the next morning and it was dark and rainy. However, we had a delicious breakfast, hung out in the lobby for quite awhile, and then after it stopped raining, we went to the pool for awhile. Bebé doesn’t care if it’s sunny! After a couple of hours it started to rain again, so we decided to head home, but I had a flat tire! Thank goodness Papi also had his car and a spare tire, because I had recently utilized mine. We made it home safe and sound, but we already miss Sunset Fishermen and hope to return!

The beach at the resort looks AH-MAZING! Glad you had a relaxing weekend. (“eemay” haha)
And where on 5th Av are the Papantla Flyers?

The beach was beautiful! The flyers were in the “plaza civica”, that open area on 5th Avenue by McDonald’s and the ADO station (lol a nice Mexican landmark…McDonald’s). Bebé loved them so much, it was his first time seeing them.
