It’s been awhile. Sometimes you’re just so busy living that you don’t have time to blog about it!
In June my job once again allowed me to be part of another cool event, the Pop Culture Fest at Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, Spa & Nature Park in the Riviera Maya. The Fest celebrated Mexican culture and all of its rich colors and flavors.
Students from a local design school created amazing dresses from paper and they were displayed in the resort’s beautiful lobby… I wanted to wear one!
Resort chefs taught cooking classes. During this one Chef Victor made salsa Huitlacoche (aka corn smut… sounds so much better in Spanish) which was delish!
Traditional Mexican games were played, like the torturous balero… got to bring one home “for Bebé” and I have really improved.
Goofing off with @Myrnation in the sports bar…
There were many tequila, mezcal and pulque (two other delicious alcoholic beverages made from agave) tastings and cocktail classes… nothing like drinking on the job! You are supposed to be able to detect all kinds of flavors, fruit, honey, wood… no matter how much I drank I really couldn’t taste any of those things, but it tasted good!
During one of the cocktail classes, an unbelievably gorgeous guy got up to learn how to make a cocktail. Once we (the social media chicas) all stopped blushing, giggling and taking countless pictures, I learned that he was Ferdinando Valencia (a perfect name for a perfect specimen) a Mexican Televisa soap opera (novela) actor. Nobody should be allowed to be this good looking!
On the final evening, there was a scrumptious Mexican buffet in the beach-pool area. It was a lot of fun because my social media peers are also my friends, like Kelly McLaughlin aka @CancunCanuck.
The Pop Culture Fest grand finale was a Lucha Libre extravaganza. It’s not really my thing, but the set-up, music and ambiance made it a lot of fun, plus there were waiters serving drinks.
I really hope there’s a Pop Culture Fest 2014 (and that they invite Ferdinando Valencia. *swoon*)
